Abstract

Water is an essential substance for the maintenance of all living beings, however, when it does not correspond to the minimum standards established for consumption, it can become a vehicle for the transmission of pathogenic microorganisms. Therefore, periodic evaluations of its physical-chemical characteristics are necessary to control the quality of water intended for human consumption. The present work was carried out during a mandatory internship carried out in the Health Surveillance of the city of Salgueiro - PE. Waters from seven public establishments in the municipality were analyzed. The parameters analyzed were: turbidity and free residual chlorine, which are important parameters that may indicate microbial manifestations in the water. The objective of the analyzes was to verify if the water offered is in accordance with the potability standards established by Ordinance GM/MS No. 888, of May 4, 2021. For the turbidity, a portable turbidimeter model HI -98703 of the Hanna brand was used, for the determination of Free Residual Chlorine was used a Checker colorimeter model Hi-701 from Hanna. Of the water samples from the seven public establishments, only one was in accordance with current legislation for the presence of free residual chlorine. As for turbidity, all samples were within the established parameters.
