Abstract

This work is aimed to investigate the immediate lethal dose of gamma radiation of Cobalt-60 for Acanthocelides obtectus, Zabrotes subfasciatus and Callosobruchus maculatus, using the IPEN / CNEN Multipurpose irradiator Cobalt-60. Insects were kept in grains of common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris and Vigna unguiculata) conditioned in plastic pots. Twenty pre-emergent adult individuals (3-7 days), totaling 5 replicates per dose, were separated. Fractional increasing doses of gamma radiation were applied until total insect mortality was reached. The dose of 3.0 kGy was established to immediate control adult insects of the species studied.
