Effluent treatment is currently a well-studied industrial focus. In this sense, several treatments are carried out in order to promote their clarification for reapplication in new essential industries for the reduction of environmental impacts and the socioeconomic well-being of the community. In this context, a treatment was carried out here on a real sample from the catchment pond of Pajuçara-Natal, RN, using commercial active carbon of medium granulometry (2mm) and powdered coal; in this sense, the use of activated carbon for this purpose becomes an example of a mitigating measure. In order to carry out the research, the collection processes were involved, taking into account all the necessary storage care, experimental analyzes and comparative results obtained after laboratory analysis. The best clarification result was obtained with 20g of powdered charcoal. It is concluded that the results were satisfactory, within the range worked with good results in the area of water quality.
