Abstract

Water is a natural resource that belongs to everyone, its indiscriminate use and consequent scarcity has generated discussions involving several countries around the world. This study presents the historical, social and political aspects of water use in the semi-arid northeast, particularly in the Salitre region, located in the municipality of Juazeiro, Bahia. The methodology used to carry out this study was descriptive bibliographic research. It was observed that the Salitre region is marked by conflicts over the right to use and access to water. Therefore, permanent and effective public policies are necessary, with continuous monitoring and management of water, promoting equal distribution to all citizens, alleviating conflicts and contributing to the social, economic and environmental development of the semi-arid region.
