Environmental education plays a fundamental role in shaping environmentally conscious citizens in a world marked by growing environmental challenges. In this context, where environmental challenges are becoming increasingly serious, teacher training becomes a matter of significant importance for building a sustainable future. Teachers are responsible for imparting knowledge and values related to environmental awareness to future generations. The aim of this research was to investigate the relevant legal provisions for teacher training in Rondônia, with a focus on environmental education. The research sought to analyze which public policies and educational regulations in Rondônia mandate the compulsory inclusion of environmental education in teacher training curricula at the higher education level, considering national legislation. The incorporation of environmental education into teacher training curricula is a complex challenge influenced by the educational public policies of each region. In the state of Rondônia, located in the southwestern Amazon of Brazil, biodiversity makes environmental education a priority. The research utilizes qualitative methods, including literature review and document analysis. The results highlight the existence of legal frameworks that establish environmental education at all levels of education in Brazil, but they also point out challenges in the effective implementation of regulations at the state level, as well as a lack of training, resources, and coordination among educational institutions. Furthermore, it underscores the scarcity of research on environmental education in teacher training in Rondônia, which represents a challenge for the sustainable development of the region.
