ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND ITS CONTRIBUTIONS TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE PLANET

This article was developed in the context of a recent academic work of the Doctoral Course of the Graduate Program in Geography - PPGEO, Institute of Geography - IG, Federal University of Uberlândia - UFU. The proposed objective was to analyze the concept, history, and development of Environmental Education, as well as its contribution to a more sustainable planet. To complement this objective, a Continuing Education Course was developed for teachers from the early years of Elementary School I with the purpose of building this knowledge about Environmental Education in school with the support of projects. Therefore, it is understood that natural resources are not infinite. In this perspective, every action generates a reaction, that is, currently environmental problems are observed, which are not simple to solve, because they are the result of years of impacts, an example is deforestation in the Amazon that causes great damage mainly in the climate; air pollution caused by CO2 emissions into the atmosphere that favors global warming, among many others. Faced with this destructive scenario in which the world is, Environmental Education has an important responsibility to make humanity understand that it takes a change of attitude regarding the way the environment is used. In conclusion, it is considered important to know and understand the objectives of the events on Environmental Education, as well as the official documents that standardize the practice of As, because this knowledge leads people to reflect on their actions in the environment in which they live and share.
